Mad Marchness

Ok, so I'm copying Adam Carolla with the title.

I'm glad that the snow waited to fall until after my studded tires were removed. Its so weird that its snowing right now.

My apologies for the belated Colin update, we were lacking a computer for a while and we've just been crazy busy. Colin figured out how to crawl and pull himself up to standing within a few days-just before he turned 9 months. He lets go of things to try to stand on his own. I think his record is somewhere between 10 and 15 seconds. I'm guessing he will be walking before he turns a year old. Here he is in all his cuteness!

Happy Anniversary and 1st Blazer game!

Tonight Colin attended his 1st ever NBA Game! Colin, Andrea and I watched the Portland Trailblazers take on the Seattle Supersonics. Well, we only watched the first half. Colin actually did really well. But it was a later tip-off, so it would be a late night for our little man. Honestly, it was more of a "test the waters" deal. I didnt get my expectations up too high...he is a little baby for goodness sakes. But he did really well for his first experience of the RoseGarden. It was fun watching him be really curious as to "why the room was so big." "Why were there so many people here yelling at each other?" "This is weird!"

Also, Colin was so excited about his experience that he pee'd on his mom's pants! Please take into mind...Yes he did have his pants on still!

Anyway, It was a really fun evening out with the family.

This was also Andrea's and my 2 Year Anniversary of being together. 2 years ago tomorrow, we went on our 2nd date to a Blazer game! So when I got my tickets for the year, I saw that there was a game right near the same date from 2 yrs ago. Pretty cool, I think.

here are a couple pics of the evening.

(sigh)

It's been a rough day for me with the Colin. He's felt the need to yell at me all day and explore his vocal range. That reminds me, I need to refill my birth control pills...

Fortunately, he's done vomiting and squirting yellow diarrhea all over the place.

As I pulled him out of his car-seat after returning from the grocery store, Colin's pants got stuck on his seatbelt and slid right off of him. Oops. I wrapped his blanket around him, stuffed his pants into the diaper bag, grabbed the groceries and headed into the apartment.

Oh look, it's cocktail time.

Rise With Us

"Rise With Us" is the new slogan for the Portland TrailBlazers this season. What a great slogan. It says alot about where the team is going. As most know, the Blazers went through quite a few years of troubled times. (Randolph, Wallace, Miles, Stoudamire, just to name a few). They even were given the nickname, the JailBlazers. They have done alot to get out of this stage of life. Out with the old, and in with the new. Luckily, Colin was born into the new era.

Colin will have his first visit to the Rose Garden to watch the TrailBlazers battle their NW rival, the Seattle SuperSonics on Feb. 21st! So we (his dad) decided it was necessary for him to own his own Blazer Gear. Momma A-Train needed some gear also, as this will be a family event.

There just so happens to be a game on today, so Colin wanted to try out his new gear while watching the game with his dad and his new buddy Blaze the Trail Cat.

What a little Stud Colin is!

Poor Sick Colin

Its been a rough week for Baby Colin. He threw up a river on Wednesday morning. Yesterday he did it again - twice. He's also had diarrhea several times (really fun to clean up!). A word of advice for future parents: if your baby is having diarrhea, lay the child down on a boppy pillow or something. That way the poo will shoot into the diaper instead of up the back, staining the outfit.

He hasn't been sleeping well, which means I haven't been sleeping well. However, with the exception of Wednesday, Colin seems to be in good spirits. He doesn't let the spewing get him down.

6.5 months old

Colin has been sitting up by himself for the last couple of weeks. Its kind of nice! We can just sit him on the floor with some toys and he can entertain himself (well, for a few minutes at least!). We don't have to carry him around ALL the time.

still no teeth. we are working on cereal. he makes a face like he thinks its disgusting. i switched from rice cereal to oatmeal cereal, but he had the same reaction. i guess it just takes time. perhaps next week we will try cocoa puffs.

We spent Christmas in The Dalles with the Dingmans. Colin received lots of gifts. Man, that kid is spoiled! Next year we will be in Bend with the Butlers!

The real "Santa"

I used to be anti-Santa, believing that he detracted from the supposed real reason for Christmas: the birth of Jesus. My dad handed me an article (http://www.crosswalk.com/1110600/page1/) about the origins of Christmas, which i found fascinating. Let me summarize.

A man of God, named Nicolas, arrived - by accident - in Myra, Turkey during the 4th Century C.E. He was appointed as a bishop and clothed in priestly (red) robes. Nicolas learned of an unsettling custom in Turkey in which families would sell their daughters into slavery, including prostitution, if there was no dowry. To remedy this tragedy, he went out on the night of December 6th and dropped bags of gold through the windows of these poor families (on one of these nights, Nicolas accidently dropped the bag into a stocking hanging on the hearth to dry). Though he did this in secretly, he was eventually discovered.

Then in the 9th Century, Nicolas was canonized by the Roman Catholic Church, becoming "Saint" Nicolas. Over time and among different cultures and languages Nicolas was given many names: Father Christmas (England), Papa Noel (France), Christkindl or Kris Kringle (Germany), Sinter (Saint) Klass (short for Nicolas). Since Nicolas was believed to have come down from the chimney, Sinter Klass became Cinder Klaussen. The poet Clement Moore, using his poem The Night Before Christmas, turned Nicolas into the jolly, tubby, Santa Claus.

The tradition of gift-giving to the poor was continued with French nuns in the 12th Century. They travelled at night on December 5th - "St. Nicolas Eve"- delivering fruit and nuts. Some people still celebrate Christmas on December 6th. The Church decided (for some reason) to change not only the date of St. Nicolas Eve, but the name and type of celebration! Now most people buy presents for each other, rather than giving to those in need.

I wholly believe that we should celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. But why combine St. Nicolas Eve and Jesus' birthday? Its tough for most people in their busy lives to devote a lot of time to give to the poor. Why not have a special day to plan for it? Isn't that what Jesus would want?
